Among the most powerful cars on the market in the immediate post-war period, the Talbot Lago record had a detuned variant of the allmighty Grand Prix engine offering 170 hp. The T26 Record was quite succesful with some 350 models build by the factory between 1947 and 1952, considering the acquisition price of the car. Most cars had factory bodies, either 2 and 4 door sedans, or very elegant convertibles. Only a handful were send to coachbuilders such as Henri Chapron, who designed only 7 bodies for the T26 Record. This one is considered to be the most beautiful of those 7 cars, much in line with the Vedette and Dandy style of this famous house. Henri Chapron is recognised as one of the great masters of the period, his style might a bit less flamboyant as that of Figoni or Saoutchik, but his restrained styling is considered as the most beautiful.
